I was born in Malawi..... my two older brothers were born in Zimbabwe and my younger sister in Zambia ... a kind of pan-african family.
My Dad was a soldier so he was by rote also a "travelling man" as he went where the army went.
I was nine months old when we moved to Zambia, and I was seven years old when we made the transition from Zambia to South Africa. I have lived in South Africa ever since, a period of some 45 years....
... Well that is until this Monday just past, when I landed in the UK, my new home and country. My sister and niece have been here 3 months already and are I think already starting to acclimatize.
It is not easy to make such a huge transition at my age. We may speak the same language, and surely there is an element of being a "global village" where ever one is but.. for all intents and purposes, although I am a British subject, Britain is a foreign country to me, and as such I will have to learn new things and adjust to an entirely different way of life.
Don't get me wrong, I am up for the challenge and indeed even looking forward to it.
What I do intend to do is give my perspective on my blog of this transition. It will be entirely my perspective and will be very tongue in cheek, and I hope people will not see negative criticism, but rather a fare comment on things new and unusual as I encounter them, entirely my own view, not necessarily correct, and not at all meant to label.... hope you enjoy my commentaries.
